Klapka György

7 April 1820 Temesvár - 7 May 1892 Budapest

Klapka was born in Temesvár (today in the territory of Romania). His father was mayor of the town. He always worked in the military. In 1849 he was general and colonel, the highest rank.
He defended Komárom during the fight for independence against the Austrians and was the last to surrender the town and ensured the army of 30 000 soldiers free defile. (they were not executed)
He died in Budapest and is buried there.
